Acupuncture for fertility and IVF support

Acupuncture has been used for many centuries to improve overall well-being, and a healthier body and mind has a greater chance of conceiving naturally. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine can also be used to treat specific conditions which affect fertility and increase the success of assisted conception procedures including In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). A large number of recent studies have found an increase in the successful outcomes of IVF when women had acupuncture alongside the IVF procedure.

Faye understands how infertility can affect nearly every aspect of a persons life through her own personal experiences. Few situations in life are as challenging and overwhelming and often, the emotional aspects of infertility go ignored and untreated, and because it is such a private issue many couples do not share their experiences which adds to their problem. Acupuncture can benefit both the female and the male physically and emotionally.

Faye provides a safe and neutral haven to discuss emotions and help with healing. All information is held in the strictest of confidence at all times. Faye can also provide dietary and lifestyle advice.

In order to maximise the health of the Patient/couple for optimal conception, it is advisable to start with acupuncture treatments 2-3 months prior to beginning IVF to focus on the improvement of the environment of growing follicles and sperm which in turn will enhance the potential for producing a higher quality of ametes (eggs and sperm) for IVF.

There are many quality research studies suggesting that acupuncture may help in various areas relating to fertility, conception and pregnancy. This research has been conducted into its use in the following areas:

During IVF acupuncture can:

  • Regulating the menstrual cycle
  • Helping to support ovulation dysfunction
  • Increasing the thickness of the uterine lining
  • Increasing the blood flow to the pelvic organs
  • Reduction of oxidative stress which may influence egg and sperm quality
  • Increasing ovarian response to ovarian stimulation
  • Reducing uterine contraction
  • Balancing the immune system (e.g. Cytokines) thus, creating a more favourable implantation environment
  • Reducing serum adrenaline (CORTISOL) and anxiety levels which is crucial for fertility
  • Improving sleep which reduces inflammatory processes.

Faye has undergone specialist training in this field of acupuncture and is happy to discuss your needs in person or over the telephone.
